Network in Postcolonial Translation: The Case of South Asia
Welcome to the website of “Network in Postcolonial Translation: The Case of South Asia”. This 3-year international research network, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, will be running from 2008 to 2011. It seeks to explore the multicultural and polyglot context of literary production in postcolonial South Asia, and aims to develop an in-depth collaborative study of contemporary writing in Bengali, English, Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil, in order to identify models of “postcolonial translation” as a way of understanding South Asian literature as a multi-lingual corpus of texts. The network brings together scholars based at Newcastle, School of Oriental and African Studies (London), University of Delhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The project will consist of two week-long workshops per year, one in Delhi, and one in Newcastle. In the final year of the network, there will be an international conference with invited speakers.
